ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Racine house fire on Tuesday near Blake and Goold injured four people—one critically—and caused two dogs to die while police confirmed all residents were accounted for.  FOX6

CRIME NEWS

  • On April 7th, Caledonia police said they found a 26-year-old Milwaukee man with a fatal gunshot wound near Frontage Road + 7 Mile Road after 7:38 p.m., and he died at the hospital.  FOX6

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Missy Hughes, CEO of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp, said sweeping tariffs imposed last week have left Wisconsin businesses and trading partners confused during her trade mission in Germany with Gov. Tony Evers. She explained that the tariffs have raised costs for companies that import goods and disrupted supply chains—concerns that may limit future investments.  Racine County Eye
  • Coffee cafes in southeast Wisconsin are bracing for higher costs from a new White House tariff that will add 10% to the price of imported beans—Stone Creek Coffee said it will pay nearly $200,000 more in tariffs and may soon raise prices to cover the added cost.  CBS58

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Raymond students outperformed state averages in English language arts and math as tests and classroom assessments helped teachers spot learning gaps for targeted instruction. District leaders explained on April 4 that if budget cuts force staff reductions, the school will welcome vetted volunteers to fill intervention roles — a plan aimed at keeping students on track.  Racine County Eye
  • After the failed April 1 referendum, Raymond School District is starting a new planning process (called Raymond 2.0) to plan for its future under a tight budget. Superintendent Michael Leach said the process will begin with a community survey in May (with listening sessions through September) and aim for a final plan by the annual meeting in October while facing upcoming budget cuts.  Racine County Eye

  • Federal staff cuts in March froze the LIHEAP team that helped over 8,400 Racine households pay for energy, putting aid at risk. Local nonprofit Energy Services Inc.—a key helper for low-income families—warns that without new federal oversight, many may soon see their energy support cut.  Racine County Eye

  • On Thursday, May 16th, Racine County Eye will host its annual Aging Well Senior Resource Fair at Fountain Banquet Hall, 8505 Durand Ave in Sturtevant from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.—free to the public—and will feature over two dozen vendors offering health, housing and daily living resources.  Racine County Eye
