COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A section of Spring Street in Mount Pleasant will close to traffic for utility work from April 21 until May 2 and drivers are urged to use Highway 20/Washington Avenue as a detour—Racine Theatre Guild will stage Legally Blonde from May 16 to June 1 at its Northwestern Avenue theater. The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled in favor of the WIAA by vacating Waterford High School wrestler Hayden Halter’s 2019 state title and affirming the union’s eligibility rules.  Racine County Eye

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Racine Common Council swore in ten alderpersons including six new members and elected Alderman Maurice Horton as president with an 8—7 vote while Alderman Marlo Harmon became vice president. The council will address rising costs and potential funding cuts as it prepares for the 2026 budget cycle.  Racine County Eye

HEALTH NEWS

  • Racine residents working to stay sober face challenges from daily triggers and a strong local drinking culture, but many rely on nearby treatment programs and support groups to maintain their recovery.   • Safe Place for Newborns, a non-profit supported by the Ascension Wisconsin Foundation, helps mothers in crisis safely surrender their newborns under Wisconsin’s Safe Haven Law so that babies remain safe in hospitals until placed with a pre-approved adoptive family.
