GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Tony Evers’s partial veto that locked in K-12 school funding for the next 400 years was upheld by the Wisconsin Supreme Court on Friday— the ruling confirms his veto power is constitutional and leaves the Legislature to address such vetoes in the upcoming biennial budget.  The Journal Times
  • On April 18, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction said it would not drop its diversity, equity and inclusion programs as demanded by the US Department of Education because the state is already following federal law. The decision may lead to a legal battle over school funding as the DPI awaits a response from Washington DC.  CBS58

  • Emma Widmar, a 26-year-old with rare illnesses, received an unexplained $850 emergency room bill that shows how delays and billing mistakes in the Medicaid system put her care at risk.
