COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new Youth Care and Development Center in Racine will soon open its doors, marking a long-held vision of former Racine County Executive Jonathan Delagrave—who died suddenly in June 2024. The facility aims to support local youth with specialized care and development services.  FOX6
  • A new youth care center on 3 Mile Road in Racine will open in May to house 48 at-risk youth from the county detention center. The 70,000-square-foot building was built as a project for the late Jonathan Delagrave — who wanted a place for healing and growth — and it will offer mental health care, education programs and life skills training.  FOX6
  • After nearly 18 years, Racine HarborFest will return to Festival Park on June 13 and 14 with local and regional bands, eight food trucks, and vendor booths. Organizers—three local businessmen—say if the event turns a profit, they will donate 15% of net proceeds to the Racine County Food Bank and Veterans Outreach.  Racine County Eye

CRIME NEWS

  • On April 19, Racine police chased a driver who ran a stop sign at Victory and Lathrop and crashed into another vehicle, leading to the death of 72-year-old Daniel Brown on April 20—36-year-old suspect Adonis Martin was arrested and is held at Racine County Jail as investigators probe the crash.  FOX6
  • Racine police shot and wounded a 42-year-old man from Racine on April 22 during a home invasion near Marquette and Hamilton after officers heard gunshots before 6 p.m.—the suspect suffered a minor injury and was taken into custody while no one else was hurt.  FOX6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The community garden at UW Parkside received a $75,000 grant from the Fund for Lake Michigan that funded student internships, new plots, an orchard, and a compost bin with food bank donations rising to 2,250 pounds last year — the garden will install a rainwater harvesting system on the hoop house to capture stormwater.  Racine County Eye

HEALTH NEWS

  • Tick season is underway in Racine and health officials urge residents to wear long sleeves and check for ticks after being outdoors. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says ticks are most active from May to November — residents should use bug repellent and remove ticks carefully with tweezers.  Racine County Eye
