COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Racine County Eye invites the public to Journalism Love Fest 2025, which will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 22 at McAuliffe’s Pub—3700 Meachem Road, where guest bartending, storytelling, and raffles will raise funds for a dedicated education reporter. Attendees will help keep Racine informed—supporting strong local coverage of school board decisions and student issues.  Racine County Eye
  • Racine YMCA and Racine County Eye will host a free Back-to-School Family Fest on July 12 from noon to 4 p.m. in Mount Pleasant – offering free supplies, wellness services and activities for families preparing for the new school year. CRIME NEWS

  • A Racine man, 36-year-old Adonis Martin, is accused of reckless homicide after a police chase ended in a crash near Lathrop and Victory on April 19 that killed 72-year-old Daniel Brown; he now faces four felonies and a misdemeanor and had an active warrant for cutting off his GPS bracelet.  FOX6
  • A Racine man, 30-year-old Janelle Daniels, pleaded not guilty to 66 felony charges that include drug trafficking and delivery of cocaine and fentanyl following a months-long investigation using a confidential informant that led to his arrest near 17th and Howe, and his bond was amended to 50,000 with a plea hearing set for June.  FOX6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mahone Foundation will award over $500,000 in scholarships to 36 Kenosha and Racine students at its record-breaking Reaching for Rainbows 'Pursuit of Excellence Scholarship Gala tomorrow at the N.E. Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center at Carthage College—650 community members are expected to attend. The gala, which honors academic excellence and community leadership, marks the foundation’s first event in 25 years to include both cities.  Racine County Eye

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Sarah Keyeski, D-Lodi, has introduced a bill to ban hedge funds from buying single-family homes in Wisconsin to help lower rising house prices, and the measure has 42 cosponsors. The bill is intended to reduce investor competition—potentially protecting local buyers from being outbid in a tight market.  Racine County Eye
  • Alderman Malik Frazier left for officer candidate school with the U.S. Army Reserves on April 27 and will return on July 25. Some local officials and residents have raised concerns over his leave—one petition calls for clearer rules on council absences.  Racine County Eye
