  • Phil Welch, a Navy veteran and third-generation business owner, runs the A&W restaurant in Caledonia near Highway K—he took over in 2012 when the location moved due to highway expansion. His grandparents started the restaurant in 1954, and it will host Root Beer Float Day on August 6 to support Disabled American Veterans.  Racine County Eye

CRIME NEWS

  • Racine man Lamarion Blair was sentenced to 10 years in prison with eight years of extended supervision after pleading no contest for his role in a gang-related shooting during a funeral at Graceland Cemetery on June 2nd, 2022 (police said several mourners were injured and his fingerprints linked him to a Chevrolet Equinox parked near the scene).  FOX6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Racine Unified School District board approved a 2.95% base wage increase for the 2025-26 school year — the raise will help workers keep up with inflation.  The Journal Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Chiropractors in Racine now offer several non-surgical treatments such as VAX-D therapy (which stretches the spine to relieve pain), laser therapy, and massage to help patients manage chronic pain.   • Dr. Briana Cantore of Ascension Medical Group explained that UV light from the sun and tanning beds raises skin cancer risk, especially for those with fair skin and northern European ancestry, and advised Racine residents to wear daily sunscreen and protective clothing.
