CULTURE NEWS

  • After a wall collapse closed the venue last year, White Lilac has reopened its listening room for shows after a community GoFundMe raised over $23,000. Owners Kelly McKay and Barbie Clarke say the intimate space is ready for live music.  The Journal Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • School staff and district officials broke ground at Gilmore Fine Arts on May 26 to begin a $6,117,181 upgrade of the auditorium, classrooms, and common areas. Construction will begin this summer and finish by summer next year, adding expanded seating & a new dance studio.  Racine County Eye
  • A multilingual fifth grader from Starbuck won the state association writing contest with an essay about her move from India to America. The win +celebrates her hard work+ and is a proud moment for local educators.  The Journal Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Visit Racine County named McCleary (interim leader since Dec. 1) full-time as its head and unveiled a renovated visitor center to boost local tourism.  The Journal Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Ahmed Siddig of Ascension All Saints Hospital reminds Racine residents to learn the signs of stroke (balance, eyes, face, arms, speech) this May as National Stroke Awareness Month urges quick action; he advises calling 911 immediately if symptoms appear.  Racine County Eye

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local high schools in Racine County kicked off postseason play for spring sports Tuesday with regional matchups in softball, boys golf, tennis and track and more competitions are set for Thursday and Friday at local venues.  Racine County Eye
