  • Racine Zoo staff announced that a healthy African Penguin chick hatched on June 26 and now weighs 2,500 grams. The chick, born on May 3, is now eating full-sized smelt and capelin — a sign of its healthy development.  FOX6
  • Today, the Wisconsin Humane Society Racine Campus at 8900 16th Street announced that donations in 2025 will be matched up to $50,000 by the Ruud Family Foundation—first-time contributions will be fully matched while returning donors receive a 50% match. The campaign supports the campus’ adoption programs, vaccine clinics, and community events in Racine.  Racine County Eye
  • The 14th annual Family Reunion Music Festival will take place tomorrow at the Johnson Park Pavilion at 6200 Northwestern Ave — the event runs from noon to 8 p.m.  The Journal Times

CRIME NEWS

  • A Burlington man, Robert Staton, 66, was sentenced to probation on June 26 for setting fire to his historic mansion on November 22 as he pleaded no contest to charges of negligent handling of burning materials and two counts of felony bail jumping—his sentence includes a $15,000 fine and a condition of absolute sobriety.  FOX6

  • Peter Bontempo, a 45-year-old South Milwaukee man, suffered a heart attack and collapsed on a Racine golf course over a month ago and returned Thursday to thank the care team who saved his life—his uncle performed CPR for nearly 20 minutes before first responders rushed him to surgery where doctors said he was lucky to be alive.  FOX6
