CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Damian Mason, 20, left Racine County Jail Friday night to join his mother after a case that tested Wisconsin self-defense laws—he shot a man who had threatened his mother in June 2022. Judge Fredrickson gave him five years of probation and stayed an eight-year sentence because of his clean record, and Mason now plans therapy, music, and a nonprofit as he awaits a restitution hearing in September. - ➤ Racine Arts Council will hold its 7th Annual Positive Power of Art Golf Outing on August 24 at Ives Grove Golf Links in Sturtevant to raise funds for local arts. The event begins with a 10:30 a.m. check-in and lunch and a 12:00 p.m. shotgun start for an 18‐hole scramble with fees from $125 per golfer to $500 per foursome—participants can register now—and it will include games, dinner, raffles and prize contests. - ➤ The Mount Pleasant Village Board approved an ordinance amendment on Monday that created a new residential zoning district—this change will set new rules for residential development in the village. The Journal Times
- ➤ The Racine County Executive Committee approved a new resolution on June 10 to condemn racist behavior linked to a May 7 track meet and the inflammatory online comments that followed—the measure passed 6—3 and now heads to the County Board for a second reading. The Journal Times
