COMMUNITY NEWS

  • School Days Antique Mall in Sturtevant, housed in a former grade school and known for its unique collection, will celebrate its 40th anniversary later this month—its owners planning special events for local collectors.  FOX6

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Walgreens will permanently close its store at 819 N. Memorial Drive on Aug. 5 as part of its companywide effort to stabilize pharmacy operations—prescription records will be transferred to the Walgreens on Douglas Avenue and patients will be offered free prescription delivery for 90 days without needing to take action.  Racine County Eye

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At a July 7 workshop, the Raymond School Board reviewed a presentation by Data Wrangler that showed a 15% drop in energy costs after installing a new monitoring system and making key upgrades—officials said initial improvements were seen and more upgrades such as LED lights and HVAC scheduling software are planned for this summer, with a Fund 80 levy expected to be set up in the fall.  Racine County Eye
  • Raymond School District reviewed a draft of its three-year strategic plan on July 7—its priorities are educational experiences, community and culture, safety and infrastructure, and financial management. District staff will continue refining the plan over summer and early fall with a detailed review scheduled on October 14.  Racine County Eye

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The new state budget cuts funding for the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Grant program that helps conserve public lands, with the program set to expire next summer, and instead provides $1 million to industry groups to develop a forestry plan — Gov. Evers partially vetoed five linked land projects. Lawmakers will review reauthorization options this fall.  Racine County Eye
  • The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that a legislative committee broke its authority by blocking a rule to ban conversion therapy—giving the governor power to enact the ban. Governor Tony Evers said the decision stops lawmakers from holding new rules hostage and will let him move ahead with reforms.  Racine County Eye

HEALTH NEWS

  • South Milwaukee resident Peter Bontempo suffered mini heart attacks this spring on a Racine golf course after feeling chest discomfort and an irregular heartbeat, and emergency responders quickly stabilized him before he was taken to Ascension All Saints Hospital (Racine) for urgent care. His experience reminds locals to seek medical help if they notice signs like fatigue, shortness of breath or chest pressure.  Racine County Eye
