COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Racine’s former alderman and Racine Raiders player Ron Hart died in Wisconsin Dells on June 25 at age 81 while golfing with his family—he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. His funeral is scheduled for Saturday, July 12 at 6 p.m. at the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on County Line Road in Mount Pleasant.  The Journal Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Racine County authorities sentenced 32 year old Lamar Hackett to five years in prison and six years of extended supervision after a traffic stop escalated into a high-speed pursuit—drone footage tracked him through a field and swamp as he hid in a tent before his arrest.  FOX6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Raymond School District expects to enroll more than 40 nonresident students this fall and could welcome up to 45 new students if pending transfers from nearby districts are approved by the July deadline (only 10 students have been formally released so far). Superintendent Michael Leach said the district has already offered admission to most of the 60 applicants after budgeting for 20 full-time open enrollment students.  Racine County Eye

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On July 8, the Racine County Board of Supervisors passed Resolution 2025-25, condemning racism after Rufus King High School athletes faced racist harassment at a May 7 track meet at Waterford Union High School. The non-binding resolution follows weeks of community outcry—NAACP members and local groups urged change—and it calls for retraining officials and new steps to help prevent such incidents in the future.  Racine County Eye
