- ➤ On July 19, more than 250 Racine residents gathered at Washington Park High School to watch the documentary CYCLE, which tells the story of Ty’Rese West’s 2019 shooting by police. - ➤ Waterford cop Sarah Polka, questioned in 2023 during a hit-and-run probe of her son, remains on duty after a March 12 Brady disclosure alleged she lied about her contact with him—she said the investigation was used as retaliation for her support of keeping the department independent and was followed by a brief administrative leave before her reinstatement. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Sonnenberg Schools will open its second campus at 800 Villa Street on Sept. 2 to serve 6th to 12th graders after receiving the former Cops N Kids building as a donation. The school is renovating the space to create larger classrooms and will partner with Operation Literacy Lounge to offer afterschool programs — the move is expected to boost enrollment from 170 to 225 students. - ➤ Raymond School District released a new monthly financial report at its July 21 board meeting that detailed all bank transactions, reconciled four accounts, ended the fiscal year with $742K in cash, and confirmed the $750K loan remained unused. The updated report replaces older versions that missed key information and comes as the district reports high transportation costs of $415K this year with a projection of $466K for the next school year.
