- ➤ Racine is asking residents for ideas on how to redevelop the Memorial Drive and State Street corner after Walgreens at 819 N. Memorial Drive permanently closed on Aug. 5—Development Director Walter Williams said plans may change when the property is sold—and the community poll by Racine County Eye will help guide future decisions. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A Racine home was damaged by fire on Wednesday night at Buchanan Street and Hamilton Street — crews rescued two dogs while the fire caused heavy smoke damage to the back porch, kitchen, and a second floor bedroom, and the fire department investigated the incident. FOX6
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Sweet Corn Fest returns to Jerry Smith Farm this weekend with free admission and live music on Saturday and Sunday—celebrating 50 years at the farm. The Journal Times
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Union Grove High School — following a $34.9 million referendum approved in November 2024 — began renovations to expand technical education space, improve accessibility, and address traffic safety issues around the school. The work will continue until January 2027 and is expected to ease gridlock and upgrade campus safety. The Journal Times
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Habitat for Humanity of Racine and Kenosha Counties broke ground on Herrick Village on August 1—a new affordable housing subdivision at 1017 S. Memorial Drive that will house 12 to 14 low- to moderate-income families. The project has nearly $3 million in private funding and began construction during Women Build Week with foundations expected in mid-September. Racine County Eye
