COMMUNITY NEWS

  • With demolition nearly complete at the former Racine Family YMCA at 725 Lake Avenue, nearly 500 residents voted in a poll held August 21st—24th that favored a splash pad, public pool and park while other ideas included mixed-use development and local shops. Racine County Eye will share the poll results with city officials to guide future redevelopment planning for the site.  Racine County Eye
  • Infinite Dream Deals owner Mohammad Alhindi launched a backpack donation event on Saturday, Aug. 23 in Racine giving 1,000 backpacks to local children and families at his store on S. Green Bay Road. He said the summer program will become an annual event to help kids prepare for school — supporting families in need.  Racine County Eye

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A trucking business expanding its fleet is updating its insurance plan to manage new risks and extra paperwork when moving from one truck to several. The company will review key coverages (including liability and cargo) and meet lender requirements (like timely renewals) to keep costs stable as it grows.  Racine County Eye

CULTURE NEWS

  • Racine native Willow Newell, the first Black Miss Wisconsin, was emotional at her send-off party at Mike + Angelo's on Aug. 24 as she prepares to compete at Miss America beginning Sept. 3 where the title will be crowned on Sept. 7.  Racine County Eye

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wisconsin lawmakers approved over $1.3 billion in tax cuts in the state budget but did not include a bill to exempt tips from tax—so they are advancing Assembly Bill 38 to match a new federal law allowing tip earners to deduct up to $25,000 from their income starting tax year 2025. The measure aims to help working-class employees who rely on tips to boost their earnings.  Racine County Eye
