- ➤ Microsoft held a news conference on Sept. 18 in Racine—state and local leaders joined as the company announced a $4 billion future investment to build a second AI datacenter in Wisconsin, expected to boost full-time jobs from 500 to 800 and support a new Datacenter Academy, while its Fairwater project will go online early next year. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Racine native and Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward had his third-degree felony domestic violence charge dismissed on Thursday after the Montgomery County Grand Jury found no evidence to support the allegations — exculpatory texts helped clear his name. Racine County Eye
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Federal funding cuts announced last week by the Department of Education have removed grant programs that supported Hispanic students at colleges such as Alverno, Herzing, Gateway Technical and Mount Mary—colleges that now say they will seek new partners to continue supporting their Hispanic communities. - ➤ Halas Pufahl (20) now works as an IT technician for Racine Unified School District after graduating high school and completing a youth apprenticeship program; he earned an associate degree (Network Specialist) from Gateway Technical College. His apprenticeship helped him overcome his fear of phone calls and find his future in IT. Racine County Eye
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Racine County High School Volleyball is underway with five boys teams and several girls teams beginning their season in close matches; Burlington led both leagues with strong play while Union Grove, Horlick/Park, Waterford, and Case prepare for upcoming tournaments—raising hopes for the season ahead. - ➤ Last week, Prairie won 8 to 0 at Martin Luther while Union Grove lost its first match and Park lost one game before winning 6 to 0, showing shifts in performance among Racine County high school soccer teams. - ➤ The Case Eagles beat the Tremper Trojans 42-0 on September 12th at Hammes Field with 305 rushing yards, key touchdowns by Morell Jackson and Jason Jefferson, and a defense that held Tremper to four first downs and 36 passing yards—helping secure the win. The team will host Racine Park today at 6:00 p.m. at Hammes Field after the JV squad posted a 22-0 win led by Nick Payne Jr. and Reece Booker. Racine County Eye
