COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, a documentary and community panel discussion on reducing gun violence will be held from 6-8 p.m. at S.C. Johnson Golden Rondelle Theater at 1525 Howe St.  The Journal Times
  • Residents of Racine’s 9th District will attend a community meeting at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection on Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. to discuss parking, speeding and safety issues with Racine Neighborhood Watch and Alder Grace Allen—residents will share feedback and raise additional concerns for future local actions.  Racine County Eye

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Microsoft is exploring a new data center in Caledonia on land owned by We Energies — the project is in early planning with no set design or timeline. Local officials say the development could boost local tax revenue and change the village's tax base while residents worry about water use and transparency.  Racine County Eye

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Racine Unified School District board member Scott Coey pushed for a cell phone-free policy at Monday’s meeting—he referred the proposal to the governance committee after saying that phones distract students and delay needed action. A poll by Racine County Eye recorded over 70% support for banning cell phones in class and 56% backing teachers collecting them despite current exceptions.  Racine County Eye

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Microsoft confirmed Tuesday that it is behind a proposed data center in Caledonia that needs rezoning for light industry near the We Energies power plant—residents voiced strong opposition during a packed meeting on Sept. 23 and a follow-up meeting is scheduled for today at Village Hall to address environmental concerns like noise and water use.  FOX6

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local rec leagues in Racine begin another week of play today with coed softball matchups at Lockwood, Lincoln and Humble NW fields, kickball games scheduled for Sept 29 and Great White League contests on Sept 30—teams will battle for playoff positioning through late October.  Racine County Eye
  • Racine County high school football teams dominated Week 5 as six teams won and Union Grove remained unbeaten — the Broncos posted a 41-14 win and will face Westosha Central next week to secure a playoff berth while Waterford and Racine Lutheran kept their undefeated conference records.  Racine County Eye
  • The Angels bounced back after a heavy loss two weeks ago and earned a 21–0 shutout win over a playoff contender—Lamont Hamilton scored a career-high while Eddie Vinson and Jayden Phillips made key plays. The team defended its WIAA Division 4 State title and will work to reduce penalties in future games.  Racine County Eye
  • On Friday night, September 19, the Case Eagles beat the Park Panthers 28-14 at Hammes Field—Michael Farr scored four touchdowns and over 30 penalty flags resulted in more than 300 penalty yards—and the win moved the Eagles to a 3-2 record while the Panthers remained winless at 0-5.  Racine County Eye
