- ➤ SWIM, a new water safety coalition, formed in Racine after two children drowned in Lake Michigan this summer and aims to improve water safety education for local residents. The group will meet on Tuesday, October 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Racine Public Library Community Room to discuss plans + school programs. Racine County Eye

- ➤ Raymond School was visited by RimRockers from the Milwaukee Bucks on Oct. 2 as gym teacher Kelly O’Hara demonstrated high-flying moves and inspired students during a 20-minute visit—teammates Benedetto, SwaggyT, Chuck, and Blaha joined the performance. Racine County Eye
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, the Sturtevant Village Board voted to appoint Mike Rosenbaum as president and rejected a motion to continue its tie with the local police department, marking a change in village governance. The Journal Times
- ➤ Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez met with about 30 Racine constituents at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection on Oct. 3 to discuss childcare, housing, and public education as many locals raised concerns over rising home prices and inconsistent school discipline. She also addressed sustainable jobs and her 2026 gubernatorial candidacy with Racine County Eye (linking statewide challenges to local needs). Racine County Eye
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Racine will get its second Federally Qualified Health Center in January 2026 at Ascension All Saints on Spring St, expanding affordable care (including women's health, dental, and behavioral health) for all residents (even if they lack insurance). Local health leaders say the new clinic will fill a long-standing gap in service access. Racine County Eye
- ➤ Small business owners and workers worry that if enhanced tax credits end later this year, rising ACA premiums will make health care hard to afford—local leaders said many might have to change jobs for better benefits. - ➤ Patients in Racine feel stuck as a dispute between Ascension and UnitedHealthcare made Ascension providers out-of-network on October 1, leaving many to worry about losing familiar doctors or facing higher costs. Diane Dunk, a 71-year-old patient, said she may switch insurance during open enrollment starting October 15, but any new plan will not begin until January 1—potentially leaving a gap in her care.
