GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Racine County will spend nearly $20 million in 2026 to keep the jail running the same way even as staff shortages and aging facilities drive up overtime and maintenance costs—officials say the funds, including a 2% raise for correctional officers, will help cover about 70% of the jail’s total expenses while a 6% property tax rise is expected to offset lost revenue. Inmates, most of whom are pre-trial or serving short sentences, will remain in a facility that has seen little change in decades despite these efforts. Racine County Eye
