Nearly 2,000 people gathered at the busy corner of Highways 20 and 31 on October 18 for the No Kings protest (up from 1,100 last summer) while Mount Pleasant police monitored the event.
Organizers said volunteers in safety vests reassured senior citizens (some of whom had faced earlier threats) and kept the protest peaceful.
