- ➤ Fire crews responded on Oct. 23 to a pole barn at 8430 Gittings Road in Mount Pleasant that was engulfed in flames—crews attacked the blaze, set up a water supply from a hydrant over 1,000 feet away, and brought the fire under control by 6:14 p.m. with no injuries reported. Racine County Eye

- ➤ Senate Minority Leader Dianne Hesselbein and Rep. Robyn Vining held a virtual press conference with award-winning actress Halle Berry to support a bill requiring the Department of Health Services to educate Wisconsin women about menopause. The lawmakers also discussed a second bill that would allocate funds for falls prevention programs to help older adults avoid injuries — efforts aimed at improving health care and safety statewide. - ➤ On Wednesday, Oct. 16, a newborn baby was safely and legally surrendered in the Safe Haven Baby Box at Racine Fire Department Station 4 on Washington Avenue. Firefighters cared for the healthy infant—who was taken to Ascension All Saints hospital for evaluation—and child protective services now has custody to begin the process of finding a permanent adoptive home.
