- ➤ This week, about 2,000 people gathered at a Mount Pleasant intersection on October 18 for a protest while local agencies warned that SNAP benefits may end on Oct. 31 if the shutdown continues. A recent survey showed strong support for a downtown grocery and market, with Halloween events planned on Oct. 31 and gas prices now at $2.35 per gallon—updates that affect the whole community.
