CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Made in Racine will host a live podcast on November 20 that tells the stories of local inventors who created everyday products—featuring panelists like Tom Friedel, Cheyanne Lencioni and Paul Holley, a trivia game, a Q&A session and refreshments from Uncorkt for a live audience. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Racine Unified School District Board approved the demolition of Roosevelt Elementary School at 915 Romayne Ave after enrollment dropped, and the project is set to cost $1.86 million. The demolition will start in late winter—finishing by early spring, and the district plans to archive school items and donate bricks. Racine County Eye
- ➤ At its Nov. 17 meeting, the Raymond School Board discussed ending open enrollment for 2026–27 after early projections showed only 18 kindergarten students—12 current 4K students and 6 new applicants—and will vote in January while preparing for possible staffing and program changes to balance state funds. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Winslow Elementary, a 170-year-old building on Park Avenue that has long been vacant, was taken over by the city in a 2023 land swap with Racine Unified School District — residents are now invited to share ideas on redeveloping the site. The city will post additional polls for other properties soon. Racine County Eye
- ➤ Racine County’s sales tax brings in over $1.5 million each month. County Executive Ralph Malicki introduced ordinance and policy amendments — designed to strengthen oversight, improve long-term planning and ensure that sales tax revenues are used responsibly. The Journal Times
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ College sports rules changed when new reforms took effect on August 1 and July 1, making scholarships more secure, expanding academic support, and increasing medical coverage — steps that now let athletes earn from their sport. The changes came from NCAA legislation and a Historic House settlement — giving Racine high-school athletes and their families a safer path to college. Racine County Eye
