COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Racine County will begin accepting applications on Dec. 1 for the SC Johnson Community Aquatic Center’s 2026 Scholarship Program—offering funds to help with passes and water safety classes. Officials stated scholarships will be awarded on a first-come basis until the $5,000 grant funds are fully allocated—ensuring more families can enjoy summer recreation.  Racine County Eye
  • A Caledonia woman, Murphy Bierbach—who started a little free pantry after the government shutdown—said between five and 20 people used her food shelf daily, and similar pantries have opened in Milwaukee to help neighbors facing food insecurity.  FOX6

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Racine Theatre Guild will host a New Year’s Eve tribute to James Taylor and Carole King on Dec. 31 at 2519 Northwestern Ave with two performances at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. + Singer Zachary Scot Johnson will lead local musicians as they play well-known hits in a tribute event.  Racine County Eye

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A local mother and daughter teamed up to create a bilingual children's book titled 'The Best of Me for You' (Lo Mejor de Mí para Ti) that explores feelings and the close bonds between teachers and students.  The Journal Times
  • At the Nov. 17 meeting, the Raymond School Board addressed curriculum gaps from budget cuts and raised concerns that relying on Rosetta Stone might not count for high school credit—board member Ed Robinson also reported that 12 RFPs were sent for a facilities study to guide future building maintenance and upgrades.  Racine County Eye
  • The RUSD board approved the demolition of Roosevelt Elementary, and the district will keep ownership of the property at 915 Romayne Ave after the building is removed. The decision was made to maintain control of the site for future use.  The Journal Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local readers said they want the Winslow Elementary property on Park Avenue turned into affordable apartments + the city acquired it on September 30 and has not made any redevelopment plans yet.  Racine County Eye
