COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Santa visited the Racine County Emergency Operations Center at the William L. McReynolds Law Enforcement Center today to share his Christmas Eve travel route with officials in Operation North Pole. Emergency Management staff gave a tour (with holiday safety tips) before he continued his visit.  Racine County Eye
  • Racine native Nalah McWhorter started a petition to establish the city's first Boys & Girls Club, gathering 740 signatures so far and planning a community leadership meeting in early 2026. City officials, including Mayor Cory Mason and Alderman Malik Frazier, back the proposal to create a safe space for youth.  Racine County Eye

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Department of Public Instruction released literacy screening data for the 2024-25 school year showing 36% of 4K through third-grade students scored below the 25th percentile for reading and must now receive personal reading plans — with 40% of 5K through third-grade students beginning interventions.  Racine County Eye

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Raymond officials on Tuesday discussed creating a TIF district along the I-94 corridor to fund sewer upgrades and support future development; village president Doug White said shifting public perceptions and potential enrollment increases of up to 300 students could help revitalize local growth.  Racine County Eye

SPORTS NEWS

  • Racine native Kentay Varnell leads Varnell Sports Consulting, mentoring student-athletes in college recruiting, NIL deals and NFL combine preparation. He began his career in 2000 and works with local players to connect with NFL agents — building pathways to pro success.  Racine County Eye
  • After Saturday's blizzard canceled many games, high school sports are picking up with basketball, wrestling, and swim and dive events scheduled at local schools today and through Saturday – teams like Waterford and Racine Lutheran compete in a busy week.  Racine County Eye
