Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 5th of December.
Good morning, Racine.
💼 Business
Independent bookstore The Nerdy Word opens tomorrow at 1106 Main in Union Grove.
The grand opening event includes book signings by thriller author Hannah Morrissey (10–1) and D. Lieber (1–4) plus live acoustic Christmas music by local band 1703 (2–4), with regular store hours following.
📰 Economy
Recent polls showed that many Racine shoppers chose modest spending on gifts + supported local stores during the week-long economic blackout from Nov.
25 to Dec. 2. They opted for neighborhood shops over large chains even as national holiday spending reached record highs.
🎓 Education
Wisconsin high schools are planning to expand dual enrollment classes that let students earn free college credit, but a shortage of qualified teachers means educators must go back to school for extra credentials.
This issue affects districts like Racine, where limited incentives and funding challenges could slow program growth.
