Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 14th of July.
Good morning, Racine.
🏘️ Community
Racine nonprofit Put the Guns Down basketball league hosted its fifth event last Sunday at Dr. John Bryant Community Center — using basketball to offer first, second and third chances to community members.
Local leaders said free games and resource booths helped unite people after gun violence rose during COVID-19 — a shift that gives hope for a more peaceful future.
🏈 Sports
Bendt Bendtsen shot a record 66 at Meadowbrook Country Club in the Racine Tri-Course Amateur Championship after Friday’s storms made the greens soft, and he boosted his two-round total to 11-under with a lead of five shots over Joe O’Brien.
Joe O’Brien and Paul Koszarek also broke course records, and Bendtsen will face tougher conditions in Sunday’s round — as he works to keep his advantage.
