About this event

Navigating the Artist’s Value Chain

A two session two hour interactive program for artists at every stage of their careers, with particular relevance for mid-career artists.

Artists make hundreds of decisions throughout their careers—about what they make, how they present it, who they work with, what they sell, what they keep, what they document, and where their work goes next. Each of these decisions can affect the potential value, visibility, reach, and longevity of their work.

This two-session program looks at the artist’s entire value chain, from the art marketplace to the work’s ultimate destination, with one central question:What decisions can I make now to maximize the potential of my work?

Session One: Navigating the Art Marketplace Maximizing Your Market Potential November 7th, 2026

Understanding the art marketplace means understanding how value is created, communicated, and increased as work moves from artist to gallery, collector, exhibition, and beyond. This session maps that value chain and explores the choices artists can make—around pricing, presentation, documentation, relationships, and sales channels—to strengthen their position in the marketplace.

Session Two: Art Legacy Compass Maximizing the Potential of What Comes Next December 5th, 2026

The value chain doesn't end when work leaves the studio. This session looks at what happens next—to an artist's work, archives, records, and business—over time. Artists explore decisions around keeping, selling, donating, or archiving work, and how to document their intentions so the future of their legacy is guided by choice rather than chance.

Together, they offer artists a full view of the value chain—from creating work to shaping what becomes of it.
