Racine County's Election Day votes are unofficial until the county canvass certifies them

Ballots were counted at four Racine County sites

If you're checking on Tuesday's election, the numbers aren't final yet. Racine County Eye covered the count all day, and everything is unofficial until the county canvass certifies it. The City of Racine's absentee ballots were counted at City Hall, not at the polls, so the city's numbers posted later on election night.

  • Polls: open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Photo ID: required, with same-day registration and proof of residence
  • Mail ballots: had to reach the clerk by 8 p.m.; postmarks didn't count
  • Absentee envelopes: opened only on Election Day morning under state law

In Mount Pleasant, Chief Inspector Joyce Gregg said "early voting had 100 people lined up in the first 45 minutes." Resident Josh Quint said, "It went very smooth, no issues. The biggest issues are affordability." Downtown, the machines at Festival Hall showed zero counts before voting opened.

We Energies has asked for a 9.25% rate hike, and 7 of 13 Racine County districts see more state aid

If you're a We Energies customer, a decision on your electric bill is close. The state is expected to rule in the next few days on the utility's proposal to raise residential electric rates 9.25% in 2027 and 5.5% in 2028. In recent rate cases, the PSC has shown a willingness to approve smaller hikes than requested.

  • Profit sought: 9.9% return on equity, up from 9.8%
  • PSC staff recommended 9.5%; asked for 9.1%

School budgets are moving, too. The Journal Times reports seven of 13 Racine County districts see an increase in state aid, and most districts see more for 2026-27. The amount a district receives is mainly shaped by local property valuation, enrollment and shared costs.
